Free small business consulting event with support from local universities! The Small Business School, in partnership with MBA students from UT Austin – McCombs School of Business and 14 other top universities nationwide, are responding to meet the needs of small businesses devastated by the current crisis by hosting the second Small Business School Challenge, a 48-hour virtual design thinking workshop to help strategize and guide small businesses during this pandemic. The event is scheduled for Oct 15 through 17 and plans to host 200 new small business owners from across the country. Applications are open through Sep 25. The City of Austin is conducting a Disparity Study examining its Minority- and Women-owned Business Enterprise program for locally funded contracts and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program for FAA-funded contracts. You are invited to participate in the study through an online small group interview of business owners. Register here for an online meeting, Sep 17 through Sep 28. Those at Bargainer know it’s a tough time for local businesses, and Bargainer wants to lend a hand. They are an Austin based startup app that lets local retailers use their excess inventory to find, and be found, by new customers in their community. Retailers simply post their items on the app and customers in their neighborhood reserve those items for pick-up.
