City of Austin, Small Business Program has a new “Challenge Studio Incubator” with applications opening on Oct 14. The Challenge Studio is an intensive 9-month program that forms and supports a team of entrepreneurs as they solve social challenges. The areas of focus are food security and nutrition as it relates to improving food access and environmental quality in connection to zero waste. The goal is to create two new businesses whose products and services result in a local public benefit.  Attend an information session on Oct 14 to learn more.

Save Our Springs Alliance and Austin Independent Business Alliance have endorsed the Unconventional Austin petition, which would require Austin voter approval for the proposed $1.2 billion convention center expansion and redirect hotel tourism dollars towards cultural, heritage and environmental projects.  If the city clerk certifies that at least 20,000 signatures are valid, the petitioned ordinance will likely appear on this November's ballot. Helping members find and keep jobs within the larger community is central to Austin Clubhouse’s mission. So far this year, 35 members, including Shubhra who earned her very first paycheck, have gained new employment through the Transitional Employment Program. The organic garden has grown more than 150 pounds of nutrient-rich produce that goes directly into the daily lunch. St. David’s Foundation generously awarded Austin Clubhouse two grants for a total of $189,600!
